Farewell 2016 - Final Finish

Christmas Hanging

This bunting was finished before Christmas. It was my Secret Santa Present for my work colleague. The pattern is by Smee Designs. I love making nativity based hangings for Secret Santa Presents.

It is an opportunity to attack the scrap stash and so far each one has been well received.

He will Shine like a Star

Harrys Star

This quilt is another Christmas gift, this time for a special young man who does not yet know how special he is. It started out as another star quilt and then became a need to pass on a message. It is sometimes hard for a person to find their special niche and realise that they will be greater than they ever imagined and so very valued. So, this is Harry's quilt.

Star Quilt

I have made one of these quilts before and just wanted to give it another go. All fabric was drawn from stash and some of it has been lying around for quite some time. Being able to use the fabric and give the quilt as a gift is awesome. Knowing that it is well received is even better.

Star Quilt

When quilting I outlined the centre yellow star with a yellow thread and then completed the rest of the quilt top in a grey thread, using an orange to match the backing in the bobbin. The photo above is supposed to show the quilting on the centre star but it is not that clear.

The backing and binding came from Connecting Threads. The star on the back is the label.

 Love the dotty binding.

The quilt measures 72 x 72 inches.

This was also on my Q4 Finish Along List, so another win.

Cup Cake Anyone?

2016 FAL

These have been a work in progress for a long time and on many Finish Along lists including Quarter 4 this year. They were intended as gifts for my co workers but I think my expectation of my sewing machine was too high and it could not cope with the thickness of all the layers when trying to sew them together, but, persistence does pay off. So this year they were completed and I was able to gift them to the lovely ladies that I work with.

I used the Hot Cakes Cupcake Oven Mitts Pattern by Susie C Shore designs. This was a great pattern to follow. My sewing difficulties were due to the fact that I added an extra layer of batting to the main part of the mitt.

Audrey's Strawberry Fields

Strawberry Fields

I am sharing another finish which was part of my Christmas Preparation. This quilt is for a young lady named Audrey. It is a kit from Connecting Threads called Georgia's Quilt and is soft and pretty. My only variation to the pattern is the inner red border. I pulled a fabric from stash as I did not like the way the red gingham would not line up for me.

Strawberry Fields

I quilted it with free form wavy lines side to side which was a quick way to finish it up. The hand stitched label is also part of the backing and quilted as well.

Strawberry Fileds

It is backed with a soft pink with white buttons patterned fabric and all the left overs from the front. It measures 86 by 66 inches.

Strawberry Fileds

This is another of my Quarter 4 Finish Along list and is now off my very extensive UFO list.

I Heart this Quilt

I loved making this quilt. It was a clear and easy pattern called Layers of Love and made with 10 inch pre-cuts, some cute jelly bean fabric, which can be seen in the label photo below, and good old basic white. The pattern is by Sterling LaBosky and can be found at the Moda Bake Shop.

This quilt is a gift for an 8 year old girl. I quilted it on the diagonal using white thread for one direction and lilac for the other.

The backing is rather bright and i used the some of the leftover half square triangles to make the pieced heart and hand embroidered the label.

This is one of my Q4 Finish Along Goals. That is now 2 off the list. Hooray!
